Trump Says Guilfoyle’s Ambassador Post Is Under Review
President Donald Trump said October 12 that he was considering removing Kimberly Guilfoyle as U.S. ambassador to Greece, but announced no decision. Asked by reporters whether he was weighing her dismissal, Trump said, “We’re looking at it” and “We’re not happy.” The remarks followed reports of allegations concerning Guilfoyle’s conduct before and during her tenure in Athens. A senior U.S. official said Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were weighing what action to take and were likely to decide during the week after the October 12 Columbus Day holiday. Guilfoyle has not been confirmed to have left the post. The most prominent allegation involves Republican donor Eric Deters. He said Guilfoyle asked him to pay $100,000 toward an American Express bill before her 2025 Senate confirmation hearing and offered access to administration officials in return. Deters said he did not pay. Guilfoyle’s lawyers dispute that account. They said the money was unpaid compensation for speaking, appearance or consulting work that predated her nomination, denied wrongdoing and said they were considering legal remedies to collect the debt.
