Report Says Guilfoyle Asked Donor for $100,000 Payment

Published 8 October 2026

A report that U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle asked donor Eric Deters to pay a $100,000 American Express bill has prompted calls from Democratic lawmakers for scrutiny, while Guilfoyle’s lawyer disputes the messages’ authenticity. The reported request was made on July 3, 2025, six days before Guilfoyle’s Senate confirmation hearing. Messages described in the reporting show her asking Deters to wire money directly to American Express and saying the transfer would not appear anywhere. Deters did not make the payment. Deters said he declined because he lacked the money and feared the payment could cost him his marriage. He said Guilfoyle had offered to help him reach Trump administration officials as he pursued assistance with personal tax and legal matters. The reported messages also describe Deters discussing payments of as much as $1 million if she helped him obtain that assistance. The reporting does not establish that money was exchanged for official action. Guilfoyle’s lawyer, Jesse Binnall, challenged the messages’ authenticity but did not identify specific inaccuracies. He said Guilfoyle was owed money for speaking at events before her nomination.
