Published 11 October 2026

The Cleveland Guardians beat the Chicago White Sox 2-0 on Saturday night, completing a comeback from an 0-2 deficit to win their best-of-five American League Division Series and advance to the AL Championship Series. Gavin Williams struck out 12 and allowed one hit in his start, while José Ramírez supplied the game’s only runs with a two-run homer in the fourth inning. Cleveland’s bullpen protected the lead, and Cade Smith struck out the side in the ninth to finish the win at Progressive Field. Chicago threatened in the sixth, when Kyle Teel’s single was the White Sox’s first hit and a walk loaded the bases with two outs. Williams left the game, and Erik Sabrowski struck out Munetaka Murakami to end the inning without a run. Cleveland’s relievers held Chicago scoreless the rest of the way. Ramírez hit his homer off Sean Burke after Steven Kwan singled to open the fourth. Williams kept Chicago hitless until Teel’s two-out single in the sixth. The White Sox finished with three hits, while Cleveland’s pitchers recorded 21 strikeouts, according to the game accounts. The Guardians had trailed 0-2 in the series before winning three straight games.
