Google rolls out Universal Cart in the US
Google has begun rolling out Universal Cart to users in the United States, bringing products from multiple retailers into a shared shopping space across Google Search and the Gemini app. The company says the tool can track saved items, alert shoppers to price drops and restocks, and help with checkout and payment choices. Users can save products they find in Search or Gemini and return to them later in the same cart, rather than keeping track of items across separate retailer websites. Google says the cart can also surface promotional codes and use information from Google Wallet to suggest a payment method based on a user’s saved cards and their benefits. When shoppers are ready to buy, they can use checkout powered by Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol, an open standard designed to connect retailers and AI-assisted shopping tools. Google says shoppers can complete purchases through Google Pay or move items to a merchant’s site to check out there. Participating merchants remain the sellers of record and handle customer support, according to the company. The launch follows a preview at Google’s I/O event in May.
