Gal Gadot's 'The Runner' debuts with 9% on Rotten Tomatoes

Published 4 September 2026

Gal Gadot's new action thriller, The Runner, has debuted to overwhelmingly negative reviews, earning a 9% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video on September 2, 2026, marks the lowest-rated film of the actress's career according to the review aggregator. Directed by Kevin Macdonald, the 84-minute film stars Gadot as Maia Marten, a high-powered London attorney whose morning run turns into a nightmare when her son is kidnapped. The abductor forces her to follow a series of commands while racing across the city, with the threat that her son will die if she stops. The cast also includes Damian Lewis as the mysterious caller. Critics have largely panned the execution of the premise. Reviews describe the film as a "flat, amateurish thriller" and a "career low" for Gadot, criticizing its lack of suspense and substance. One review noted that while the film maintains a fast pace, it fails to transcend its "potboiler" packaging. A dissenting opinion from The Hollywood Reporter suggested the movie works as a suspension-of-disbelief exercise, but this view is in the minority.
