Four South American nations submit 2035 Rugby World Cup bid

Published 6 October 2026

Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Brazil have submitted a joint bid to host the 2035 Rugby World Cup, according to the Argentine Rugby Union, proposing matches across 11 stadiums in 10 cities. If selected, the plan would bring the tournament to South America for the first time, with Argentina leading the bid and the other three countries also hosting games. The proposed venue list includes eight stadiums in Argentina and one each in Brazil, Chile and Uruguay. The Argentine venues are in Buenos Aires, La Plata, Córdoba, Santiago del Estero, Salta, Mendoza and Rosario. The plan also names the Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro, the National Stadium in Santiago de Chile and the Centenario in Montevideo. The rugby organizations involved describe the submission as the delivery of information required for World Rugby to consider the four countries as candidates. World Rugby’s selection process is expected to include assessments of proposed venues. A preferred host is expected to be announced in May 2027, with the final decision due from the World Rugby Council in November 2027.
