Four arrested in fatal shooting of boxer Zolani Tete

South African police have arrested four suspects in connection with the fatal shooting of former two-division world boxing champion Zolani Tete, who was killed outside his home last week. The arrests were announced on Monday, August 24, 2026, as authorities confirmed one suspect is scheduled to appear in court the same day. Tete, 38, was ambushed on the evening of Friday, August 21, while sitting in his car waiting for his gate to open at his residence in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape. According to police, two armed men wearing balaclavas emerged from another vehicle and opened fire. Tete attempted to drive into his yard to escape but succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
