Focus Features Releases Trailer for Andrew Scott’s Elsinore

Focus Features has released the trailer for Elsinore, a biographical drama starring Andrew Scott as actor Ian Charleson, ahead of the film’s scheduled theatrical release in North America on November 20, 2026. The film follows Charleson’s Hamlet performance at London’s National Theatre while he was living with complications from AIDS. Directed by Simon Stone and written by Stephen Beresford, Elsinore portrays Charleson taking over the role after Daniel Day-Lewis left the production during a performance and did not return. Charleson, known for his role in Chariots of Fire, received critical praise for his interpretation of Hamlet. He died in 1990, seven weeks after leaving the production, according to reports about the film’s story. The trailer includes scenes of Charleson discussing the role with friends and his doctor. Olivia Colman plays Margaret Johnson, the doctor who treated Charleson, while the ensemble also includes Billie Piper, Johnny Flynn, Luke Thompson, David Dawson, Joe Locke, Monica Dolan and Peter Mullan. Scott is also a producer on the film.
