Ethereum Activates Glamsterdam Upgrade on Sepolia
Ethereum activated its Glamsterdam upgrade on the Sepolia testnet on October 6, beginning a public trial of protocol changes that include a configurable 200 million gas-limit target, more than three times the roughly 60 million level used previously. The activation does not set a mainnet limit or date; developers are to assess the test before scheduling the next stage on the Hoodi testnet. The upgrade tests changes to how Ethereum blocks are assembled and checked. EIP-7732 introduces enshrined proposer-builder separation, which distinguishes the roles of validators proposing blocks and builders assembling their execution payloads. The design also separates consensus validation from execution validation, giving validators more time to check payloads. EIP-7928 adds block-level access lists, records of accounts and storage locations used during a block. By making that information available, the change is intended to help clients fetch data and process eligible work in parallel, rather than relying entirely on sequential execution.
