Endgame Encore Links Steve’s Choice to Doomsday

Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame Encore adds footage that connects Steve Rogers’s decision at the end of the 2019 film to the events of Avengers: Doomsday, while also introducing scenes featuring Doctor Doom and Bruce Banner. Director Anthony Russo said Steve’s choice to end his career in the past, alongside Peggy Carter, is the point “where Doomsday is born.” The added scenes’ full consequences remain unclear. The rerelease arrived in theaters on September 25. Accounts of the bonus footage describe post-credits scenes featuring Doom, Banner and the Time Variance Authority, or TVA. In one scene, Doom confronts Banner at a government facility and takes him away. The account does not establish where Banner goes or what happens to him afterward. Another scene reportedly shows Doom making his mask. The imagery recalls Tony Stark’s construction of his first Iron Man suit, prompting speculation that Doom and Stark are connected. Asked about that theory, Russo declined to confirm it, saying the filmmakers were committed to Robert Downey Jr. as Victor Van Doom and that audiences should wait to see the film. The shared actor and visual echo do not establish that Doom is a Stark variant.
