Emmy Winning Muppet Show Special Still Awaits Series Order
Seven months after its debut, The Muppet Show revival special has delivered strong ratings and four Emmy awards, yet no full series order has followed, according to a report citing unnamed sources. The obstacle is described as creative rather than a lack of interest, with the parties involved still unable to agree on a premise for an ongoing series. The special premiered on February 4, 2026 on ABC and Disney+, returning Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo and the rest of the ensemble to the original Muppet Theatre for a classic variety-show format. Disney reported that the special drew 7.58 million viewers across the two platforms within its first eight days, and that viewers have watched more than 125 million hours of Muppets content on Disney+ since the franchise arrived on the service. The awards success has been equally notable. The special earned six Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special, and won four awards.
