Ellison names planned Paramount and Warner Bros. company Skydance
David Ellison announced that the company planned from the merger of Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery will be called Skydance, adopting the name of the production company he founded. The merger remains pending, with the companies’ announced closing date set for October 6, 2026. Ellison said the name was chosen to give the combined company a distinct identity while preserving the Paramount and Warner Bros. brands. In a social media post, he wrote that the companies’ histories and identities would remain in the spotlight. The announcement establishes the planned corporate name, but does not detail how the studios will be organized or how much independence they will have within the combined business. The transaction would bring together two major entertainment businesses, including their film and television operations and streaming services HBO Max and Paramount+. Their properties include franchises and brands such as Harry Potter, DC, Game of Thrones, Mission: Impossible, Top Gun and Nickelodeon. The merger has not been reported as completed.
