Eddie Murphy Attached to Peacock Drama The Chairman

Published 2 October 2026

Eddie Murphy is attached to star in The Chairman, a drama series being developed at Peacock by Matthew Weiner, in what would be Murphy’s first leading role in a live-action scripted television series. The project has not been announced as greenlit, and no plot details have been disclosed. Murphy and Weiner are also set to serve as producers, according to reports. The series is to be produced by Universal Television and 101 Studios. Peacock has not announced whether it will order the project to series or when it might enter production. The role would mark a new step in Murphy’s television career, which has included both live-action and animated work. He became widely known as a cast member on Saturday Night Live, where he appeared for four seasons from 1980 to 1984. His scripted television work has included voice acting on the animated series The PJs, which he co-created, as well as work on The Royal Family. The Chairman would be his first lead in a live-action scripted series, based on the descriptions provided in reports about the project. Weiner created Mad Men, the drama that ran for seven seasons from 2007 to 2015, and was a writer and executive producer on The Sopranos.
