Earl Spencer Says He Hears More From Harry Than William

Published 2 October 2026

Earl Spencer says he hears from Prince Harry more often than Prince William, while emphasizing that he does not take sides and remains available to both of his nephews. Spencer made the comments in an interview published October 1, describing his relationship with the sons of his sister, Princess Diana, as supportive but deliberately limited. Spencer said Harry may need him more on some occasions, which he described as the reason for their more frequent contact. He said the difference did not mean he favored Harry over William. The account reflects Spencer’s characterization; the reports provide no independent contact records or response from either prince. In the same interview, Spencer discussed his memoir, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, published September 22. He said he told William and Harry about the book at the same time as Diana’s sisters. According to Spencer, Harry asked whether it included anything embarrassing about him, and Spencer reassured him that it did not compromise the princes’ privacy. Spencer also said Harry had been supportive of the eulogy he delivered at Diana’s funeral in 1997.
