DOJ Presents Evidence in Hutchinson Grand Jury Inquiry

Published 8 October 2026

The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division presented evidence to a federal grand jury on October 6 concerning a possible false-statements case against former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson, according to reporting based on unnamed sources. The grand jury has not decided whether to indict her, and the specific statements prosecutors consider false have not been disclosed. The presentation concerns Hutchinson’s testimony to the House committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. Prosecutors are expected to present additional evidence and witnesses later in October, according to the same reporting. The materials do not establish that an indictment has been returned. Hutchinson, an aide to then-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, testified before the committee in 2022. Among her accounts, she said former President Donald Trump tried to grab the steering wheel of a vehicle after his security detail refused to take him to the Capitol. Other witnesses and a 2024 House Republican report challenged aspects of that account.
