Disney Weighs Streaming-Focused TV Reorganization
The Walt Disney Co. is developing a plan to reorganize its television operations around streaming, a change that could eliminate hundreds of jobs, according to reports. The proposal would consolidate divisions now organized around traditional television brands, but it remains unfinished and the number of positions that might be cut has not been confirmed. Disney executives are still working out the structure, and the plan may not be finalized until the end of 2026, the reports said. No implementation date or final staffing total has been announced. The possible reductions are therefore prospective, rather than confirmed layoffs under the television reorganization. Disney Entertainment Television Chairman Debra O’Connell is leading the effort, according to the reports. Her division includes ABC Entertainment, 20th Television, Hulu Originals, Disney Kids & Family, National Geographic Content and Freeform. The proposed changes could affect executives overseeing television units, and ABC News may also face additional reductions, the reports said.
