Delhi restricts travel ahead of CJP protest
Delhi imposed extensive security and travel restrictions on October 10 as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) prepared to hold a protest in New Delhi demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in voter-roll revision. Police denied permission for the demonstration, while CJP leaders said they intended to proceed, invoking the right to protest. Authorities ordered mobile internet services suspended within a four-kilometre radius of the Janpath-Kartavya Path area from Friday night until Saturday night. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs issued the order, which applied to mobile internet in the specified area. Transport restrictions affected metro access and rail services. After the Supreme Court directed authorities to lift blanket restrictions on metro and railway services, Delhi Metro issued an advisory restricting entry and exit at 45 stations. Another report described 57 stations as shut or affected; the accounts did not clarify whether the totals covered different types of restriction. The revised advisory was scheduled to run from 9 p.m. October 9 to 6 p.m.
