Delhi Police Denies Permission for CJP Protest

Published 9 October 2026

Delhi Police has denied permission for the Cockroach Janta Party’s planned protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10, citing late notice and concerns about public safety, law and order, and traffic, a senior officer said Friday. Joint Commissioner of Police Nupur Prasad said the police received the application from CJP co-convenor Saurav Das on October 7, three days before the demonstration. Existing guidelines require applications at least 10 days in advance, she said. The protest was planned to address the accountability of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, with the party and other groups calling for his resignation over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Prasad also alleged that the party had not followed lawful directions and its own undertakings during an earlier protest. She said the application was considered but permission was refused in light of the short notice, the alleged past noncompliance and concerns over safety, public order and traffic. The supplied reporting does not independently establish the earlier alleged conduct. Police said prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita applied in New Delhi district.
