Delhi PG building collapses, students trapped

A five-story paying guest accommodation building collapsed in the Satya Niketan area of southwest Delhi on Sunday afternoon, trapping an estimated 30 to 50 students and others beneath the rubble, according to local reports and officials. The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. in a neighborhood known for student housing near Delhi University's South Campus, prompting a major rescue operation involving fire services, police, and disaster response teams. The building, identified as a men's paying guest facility called Hostel Daze, housed approximately 75 beds across about 15 rooms, with two to three students sharing each room. Residents reported that many of the occupants were students from Kerala, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, studying at nearby colleges such as Motilal Nehru College, Atma Ram Sanatan Dharm College, and Sri Venkateswara College. They were paying around 12,000 rupees per bed. Police received a PCR call at 1:34 p.m., after which at least eight to 12 fire tenders and multiple rescue teams were dispatched to the scene. Witnesses described a sudden tremor followed by a loud crash, with residents rushing out to see the building reduced to a pile of rubble.
