Delhi Capitals appoint Ganguly as IPL 2027 head coach
Delhi Capitals have appointed Sourav Ganguly as head coach for the 2027 Indian Premier League season, replacing Hemang Badani. The franchise confirmed the change on October 6, 2026, making Ganguly its coach ahead of his first formal coaching season in the role. Ganguly has been associated with Delhi Capitals since 2019, initially as an adviser. He later held leadership positions, including director of cricket for the men’s and women’s teams. The appointment moves him from those roles into charge of the men’s team’s coaching for IPL 2027. Ganguly said he looked forward to working with the squad and taking on the responsibility. He described Delhi Capitals as a franchise with which he has a strong relationship and said he aimed to build a strong, fearless team. The franchise’s chairman and co-owner, Parth Jindal, welcomed the appointment, while co-owner Kiran Kumar Grandhi cited Ganguly’s familiarity with the team and experience in cricket administration. The coaching change follows two seasons under Badani. Delhi Capitals did not qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2025 or IPL 2026, according to the account of his tenure.
