Davis sentenced to 40 years to life in Shakur killing

Published 13 October 2026

Duane “Keffe D” Davis was sentenced Tuesday to 40 years to life in prison for the 1996 killing of rapper Tupac Shakur, more than three decades after the shooting in Las Vegas. Judge Carli Kierny also credited Davis with 731 days already served. Davis said he would appeal his conviction. A Nevada jury found Davis guilty of first-degree murder in August. Prosecutors argued he organized the attack and supplied the gun, but did not allege that he fired the shots. Davis was the only person charged in Shakur’s death. The case centered largely on Davis’s own past accounts, including statements to law enforcement and interviews, as well as his 2019 memoir. Prosecutors said those accounts placed him in the Cadillac involved in the shooting and described his role in the retaliation. Davis’s attorney, Michael Sanft, challenged the accounts’ reliability, arguing they were intended to make money and that physical evidence did not link his client to the crime. Prosecutors said the attack followed a confrontation earlier that night in which Shakur and members of his entourage beat Davis’s nephew, Orlando Anderson, at the MGM Grand. They argued Davis organized the shooting in retaliation.
