Danni becomes first Bake Off elimination this series

Danni was eliminated from The Great British Bake Off after Biscuit Week, becoming the first contestant sent home this series, while Tom was named Star Baker in the episode broadcast Tuesday, September 29. The show’s opening Cake Week had ended without an elimination, according to reports on the episode. The bakers faced three biscuit challenges: making American-style cookies, recreating iced gems and assembling a visually striking biscuit mosaic. During the cookie tasting, judges Nigella Lawson and Paul Hollywood criticized Danni’s Snickerdoodles, saying they had too much cinnamon and bicarbonate of soda and were powdery. Danni, who is vegan, had told the judges they could not taste the cookies before presenting them because the recipe included cream and butter. Tom, a hairdresser from West Yorkshire, was praised for his almond praline, salted peanut and chocolate cookies and had the strongest result in the iced-gem technical challenge. His showstopper, a mosaic inspired by the Burn Book from the film Mean Girls, was made from more than 70 raspberry biscuits. He struggled to finish it and described the result as a mess, but the judges praised its flavour.
