Dangote Refinery IPO Launches on NGX, Raises N1.5 Trillion in Hours

Published 15 September 2026

The initial public offering for Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals officially launched on the Nigerian Exchange Limited on September 14, 2026, marking a significant event for Nigeria's capital market. The offering aims to raise approximately N2.15 trillion by selling 4.1 billion new ordinary shares at a price of N525 each. Aliko Dangote, President and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, described the IPO as a historic opportunity to democratize wealth creation. "It would enable ordinary Nigerians and investors globally to own shares in one of Africa's major industrial projects," Dangote stated during the opening ceremony in Lagos. He emphasized that the decision was driven by a desire to broaden ownership of the refinery asset, saying, "An asset of this magnitude should not create value for only a very few people." According to Forbes data cited in reports, the IPO raised N1.5 trillion within its first six hours of trading. This initial surge contributed to a revaluation of Aliko Dangote's personal fortune to $51 billion, placing him as the 36th richest person in the world.
