SkyShowtime Board Begins Review That Could Lead to Shutdown

Published 14 September 2026

The board of SkyShowtime, the European streaming joint venture owned by Comcast and Paramount, has initiated a strategic review that includes the possibility of shutting down the service. The review was announced in a letter from the board to CEO Monty Sarhan, which was subsequently shared with staff. The letter, dated Monday, September 14, 2026, stated that the shareholders are commencing a review of strategic options for the business, which includes the possibility of a wind down. It emphasized that no decisions have been made and all options remain under consideration. The board described SkyShowtime as operating in one of the most competitive markets in our industry, noting that the landscape continues to evolve rapidly and remains highly challenging. SkyShowtime was launched in late 2022 and has since rolled out across 22 European markets, including Albania, Denmark, Poland, and Spain. The service combines content from Paramount, NBCUniversal's Peacock, and Sky Studios. According to a person familiar with the matter, the joint venture has grown to nearly 10 million subscribers since its launch. Despite this growth, the service has faced significant financial losses.
