Court to rule Nov. 20 on Atiku suit amendment
The Federal High Court in Abuja will rule on November 20, 2026, on whether former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) may amend their suit challenging President Bola Tinubu’s eligibility for the 2027 presidential election. Justice Inyang Ekwo set the date on October 13 after hearing arguments from the parties’ lawyers. The court has not ruled on the amendment or the underlying allegations. Atiku and the ADC filed their amendment application on September 10. They say changes are needed to correct errors in their original filings, clarify their allegations and add supporting material, including a written deposition and clearer copies of documents. They also seek to correct a reference to an INEC form: their original filing identified it as Form CF001, while they say it should be Form EC9A. The applicants maintain that the proposed changes do not introduce a new issue or seek additional relief. Their underlying suit asks the court to disqualify Tinubu and the APC from the 2027 election over allegations concerning a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
