Supreme Court to List Delhi Protest Petitions

Published 13 October 2026

The Supreme Court said Tuesday that it would list petitions concerning protests in Delhi after petitioners sought urgent hearings, with the bench indicating the cases could be listed Wednesday or Thursday once procedural defects were corrected. Chief Justice Surya Kant gave the assurance to senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan, who brought the matters before a bench that also included Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana. The petitions address a range of issues arising from demonstrations over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The precise hearing schedule was not settled in the courtroom exchange reported Tuesday. One account said the petitions were expected to be heard October 15, while the Chief Justice’s remarks described Wednesday or Thursday as possible listing dates. Another report cited a case-status entry tentatively showing November 2. The reports do not clarify whether these dates refer to different procedural stages. The court’s assurance was that the matters would be listed after defects were cured.
