Clark and Reese Shine as Team USA Routs Hungary

Team USA rolled past Hungary 108-56 in the FIBA Women's World Cup quarterfinal in Berlin on Thursday, advancing to the semifinals behind a record-setting team performance and a headline-grabbing connection between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. The 52-point margin sent the Americans into a semifinal matchup against the winner of the Spain-Australia quarterfinal, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, as the United States continues its pursuit of a fifth consecutive World Cup gold medal and 12th overall. Napheesa Collier led all scorers with 19 points and seven rebounds, and Rhyne Howard added 15. Clark, coming off the bench, finished with 10 points, three rebounds, nine assists and two steals, while Reese added nine points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals in 18 minutes. Team USA recorded 31 assists, a quarterfinal record for the Women's World Cup, and shot 58.8 percent from the field. Much of the attention centered on the assists that flowed between Clark and Reese, long portrayed as rivals since Reese's LSU beat Clark's Iowa in the 2023 NCAA championship game.
