Capcom Plans Resident Evil Remake and New Game Crossover
Capcom is preparing for the Resident Evil remake series to eventually converge with the franchise’s newer numbered games, executive producer Jun Takeuchi said in an interview published in a Japanese anniversary magazine. He described a planned crossover between the series’ two storylines, but did not identify a specific game or give a timetable. Takeuchi said Capcom had been gradually preparing for the convergence since around Resident Evil Village. He pointed to the return of Raccoon City in Resident Evil Requiem and references to Umbrella and Spencer as elements connected to those plans. The comments were relayed in a translation of the interview. The series currently follows two tracks: numbered games advance its ongoing story, while remakes revisit earlier entries. Takeuchi said the remake line would someday catch up with the era of the numbered titles and that Capcom was already considering what to do when that happens. His remarks describe a direction for the franchise, not confirmation that a particular game or remake has been approved. Takeuchi also said references that developers initially viewed as fan service drew stronger interest from players than expected.
