Canucks fall to Hurricanes and Devils on road trip
The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Vancouver Canucks 7-2 on Thursday, then the New Jersey Devils beat Vancouver 4-1 on Saturday, leaving the Canucks with consecutive losses to open a six-game road trip. Logan Stankoven scored three times for Carolina in Raleigh, recording the first hat trick of his career. Andrei Svechnikov scored twice in the first period, both on the power play, as the Hurricanes built an early lead. Jake DeBrusk scored both Vancouver goals. Carolina’s other goals came from K’Andre Miller and Mark Jankowski. Sean Walker had four assists, and Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 18 shots. Vancouver goaltender Kevin Lankinen allowed six goals on 18 shots through two periods before Leevi Merilainen took over; Merilainen stopped 14 of 15 shots. The Hurricanes led 3-0 before DeBrusk scored early in the second. Carolina then added four more goals, including two by Stankoven in the second and his third in the third. DeBrusk scored again in the third. Carolina converted all three of its power plays, while Vancouver went 0-for-4. Vancouver returned to the ice Saturday in Newark, where New Jersey won 4-1.
