Hurricanes beat Canadiens 6-4 in Montreal home opener

Published 7 October 2026

The Carolina Hurricanes beat the Montreal Canadiens 6-4 in Montreal’s home opener on Tuesday, October 6, as Taylor Hall scored twice and Zachary Bolduc also netted two goals for the hosts. Carolina overcame a 3-2 first-period deficit and took the lead in the second, extending a recent run of success against the Canadiens after eliminating them in last season’s Eastern Conference final. Five goals came in the opening 13 minutes at the Bell Centre. Hall opened the scoring, but Bolduc and Nick Suzuki put Montreal ahead before Eric Robinson tied the game for Carolina. Bolduc’s second goal, on a power play, restored Montreal’s lead at 3-2 before the end of the period. Sebastian Aho tied the game early in the second period with a power-play goal. Mark Jankowski then scored after Montreal turned the puck over under Carolina’s forecheck, giving the Hurricanes a lead they did not surrender. Hall made it 5-3 in the third. Juraj Slafkovsky cut Montreal’s deficit to one with just over three minutes remaining, but Andrei Svechnikov scored into an empty net to secure the result. Aho finished with a goal and two assists.
