Caulfield scores first NHL goal in Ducks’ 5-1 win

Published 10 October 2026

The Anaheim Ducks defeated the Winnipeg Jets 5-1 on Friday, October 9, as rookie Judd Caulfield scored his first NHL goal and added an assist. The win gave Winnipeg its first regulation loss of the season, while Anaheim improved to 3-1-0. Caulfield opened the scoring in the first period, putting away a rebound after Jeff Malott carried the puck to the net. Tim Washe also assisted on the goal. About 10 of Caulfield’s family members and friends had traveled from his hometown of Grand Forks, North Dakota, to watch the game in Winnipeg. Caulfield said having his family in the stands made the milestone especially meaningful. He credited Washe with starting the play and Malott with creating the scoring chance. Caulfield also assisted on Washe’s goal early in the second period, which made it 2-0. The goal came in Caulfield’s fourth NHL game; he made his debut on October 2. Anaheim extended its lead to 3-0 early in the third period when Sam Colangelo scored. Kyle Connor cut the deficit to 3-1 with his sixth goal of the season, but Mikael Granlund scored with 5:54 remaining and Nikita Nesterenko added an empty-net goal to complete the scoring.
