Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 Announced as Series Conclusion

Published 19 September 2026

Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will serve as the "epic conclusion" to the Modern Warfare series rebooted in 2019. The game is scheduled for a worldwide launch on October 23, 2026, with campaign early access beginning on October 16 for eligible digital preorders. The announcement was accompanied by a new campaign trailer revealed during the Xbox Tokyo Game Show broadcast. The trailer confirmed that Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen will portray the main antagonist, a character known as "The Archer." The game's narrative is described as a split story featuring a war on the Korean Peninsula and a rogue Captain Price. In the campaign, players will control South Korean Private Park Hyun Jun during a full-scale North Korean invasion. Simultaneously, the story follows former Task Force 141 commander John Price, who is on the run after the events of Modern Warfare 3. Price is operating outside the chain of command and is being hunted by his former allies, Ghost and Gaz. The central threat involves a "catastrophic weapon of war" sought by the villain, The Archer, which is described as capable of overturning the world order.
