ByteDance Secures $29.6 Billion Loan for AI
TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, has secured a $29.6 billion syndicated loan, the second-largest dollar-denominated borrowing deal in Asia this year. The substantial financing, coordinated by Citigroup and JPMorgan, was significantly oversubscribed, with lenders submitting orders exceeding $30 billion against an initial target of $20 billion. The proceeds from the three-year loan, which includes an option to extend for an additional two years, are primarily earmarked for ByteDance's ambitious artificial intelligence initiatives. This includes expanding data center capacity and other AI infrastructure, particularly outside of China. The favorable terms reflect strong lender confidence in the company, with an initial margin of 68 basis points over the Secured Overnight Financing Rate, a reduction from its previous offshore financing. ByteDance is reportedly considering capital expenditures of up to $70 billion annually for AI infrastructure, a figure that would place it alongside major American technology companies.
