Published 7 October 2026

The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the San Diego Padres 3-1 in Game 4 of the National League Division Series on Wednesday, October 7, eliminating San Diego and winning the best-of-five series 3-1. Milwaukee advanced to the National League Championship Series, where it will face the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Brewers took the lead in the fifth inning and held it through the final outs. Garrett Mitchell opened the inning with a triple, and Jackson Chourio followed with a go-ahead RBI single. Milwaukee added an insurance run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Sal Frelick, according to the available game account. San Diego’s only run came in the third inning, when Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a solo home run off Milwaukee starter Robert Gasser. The Padres did not score again. Mitchell made a key defensive play in the eighth, catching Manny Machado’s apparent tying home run near the wall to preserve Milwaukee’s advantage. Milwaukee’s bullpen secured the win with five scoreless innings from Aaron Ashby, Abner Uribe and Trevor Megill. The Brewers had taken a 2-1 series lead into Game 4 after San Diego won Tuesday’s Game 3, 4-3, to avoid elimination.
