Bitget Reopens Bitcoin Withdrawals After $387.5 Million Breach
Bitget reopened Bitcoin withdrawals on September 28, four days after suspending them during an investigation into a security breach it estimates at about $387.5 million. The exchange said Bitcoin withdrawals resumed at 0800 UTC after additional security checks, with other services scheduled to return in stages. Bitget CEO Gracy Chen said the exchange had processed 9,585 Bitcoin withdrawal orders totaling about 4,098 BTC by 1700 UTC+8 on September 28. Separately, data tracking wallets attributed to Bitget showed its Bitcoin reserves falling from about 35,412 BTC to 30,770 BTC, a decline of roughly 4,642 BTC. That change cannot be equated with customer withdrawals: tracked balances may also shift because of internal transfers or gaps in wallet coverage. Under Bitget’s announced schedule, ETH withdrawals are set to resume September 29, USDT withdrawals September 30, and withdrawals for other assets, fiat and peer-to-peer services October 2. The schedule followed a four-day suspension while the exchange checked its withdrawal systems and investigated the incident. Bitget initially put the affected amount at $351.6 million, then revised its estimate to about $387.
