Bautista Transforms for God of War Kratos Role

Published 5 September 2026

Dave Bautista is undergoing a significant physical transformation as he prepares to portray Kratos in the upcoming live-action God of War television series. The actor shared a video on Instagram on Thursday, September 3, 2026, showcasing his progress in weight training for the role. Bautista, who was officially cast as the Spartan warrior last month, indicated that he is three weeks into his regimen and has two more months of training ahead to achieve the desired physique. Bautista is stepping into the role previously held by Ryan Hurst. Hurst, who had begun filming, suffered a torn bicep during a stunt in late June 2026. The injury necessitated surgery and a lengthy recovery period, which would have significantly delayed production. As a result, Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television recast the lead role. Four episodes reportedly filmed with Hurst will be reshot with Bautista. The God of War series, ordered by Amazon in 2022, is based on the popular video game franchise, drawing primarily from its Norse mythology-inspired installments.
