Bank of America adds 1,000 contractors for AI-exposed flaws

Published 15 October 2026

Bank of America deployed 1,000 outside contractors in the second quarter to help repair software vulnerabilities identified by advanced artificial intelligence models, including Anthropic’s Mythos, Chief Executive Brian Moynihan said. The contractors are working alongside about 3,000 bank employees assigned to the effort, according to Moynihan. The disclosure, made after the bank reported third-quarter results, offers a measure of the staffing involved in addressing weaknesses found in the bank’s own software and code supplied by outside vendors. Moynihan said the contractors remained on the job after joining the effort in the second quarter. The bank spent “a couple hundred million plus” in the third quarter on software remediation and regulatory issues tied to anti-money-laundering compliance, Moynihan told analysts. That figure combines the two areas of spending; he did not provide a separate total for patching vulnerabilities identified by AI. Moynihan said the bank expects remediation costs to decline as repairs move through its pipeline. The reported staffing and costs come from his account, and the figures were not independently verified in the supplied reporting.
