Anthropic launches Cyber Mission and free OSS scanner

Published 9 October 2026

Anthropic has launched its Cyber Mission, a long-term effort combining support for critical-infrastructure defenders with a free vulnerability scanner for eligible open-source projects. The company says the initiative will provide frontier Claude models, onsite engineers and threat research to providers working to protect systems such as power grids, water utilities and transportation networks. The infrastructure effort, called the Critical Infrastructure Defense Program, begins with 11 founding partners, according to Anthropic. They include Accenture, Booz Allen, CrowdStrike, Deloitte, Dragos, Hitachi, Insane Cyber, Nozomi Networks, Palo Alto Networks, PwC and Rockwell Automation. Anthropic says the partners will receive access to its models, engineering support and threat research to help defend operational technology and other critical systems. The program is aimed at infrastructure environments where equipment may be difficult to take offline for updates. Anthropic is working through providers that support operators, rather than presenting the initiative as a broadly available security product. The company said it expects to add partners and sectors over the coming months.
