Anthropic launches Haiku 5.5 and cuts Sonnet cache prices

Published 7 October 2026

Anthropic has released Claude Haiku 5.5, a small AI model aimed at high-volume, speed-sensitive tasks, while cutting the price of cached input for its Sonnet 5.5 model by half. The company says Haiku 5.5 costs about 75% less on average than its predecessor, though that estimate reflects Anthropic’s pricing and token-use calculations rather than independent real-world measurements. For prompts up to 100,000 tokens, Haiku 5.5 costs $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens. Haiku 4.5 was priced at $1 and $5, respectively. Anthropic says the new model’s tokenizer uses slightly more tokens per task, and estimates the average cost reduction at about 75% after accounting for that difference. Prompts longer than 100,000 tokens have different pricing, so the listed rates do not apply to all workloads. Anthropic designed Haiku 5.5 for repetitive or narrowly defined work such as summarization, classification, database queries and customer support. It also presents the model as suitable for browser use and as a subagent handling smaller tasks in coding workflows.
