AMD Plans Substantial Chip Supply Increase in 2027
AMD plans to substantially increase chip supply in 2027 as demand for artificial intelligence hardware remains strong, CEO Lisa Su told reporters in Taipei on October 6. She said the company had already increased supply during 2026, but did not provide a target volume or specify which products would account for the planned expansion. Su said AMD is coordinating with manufacturing and memory partners to prepare for higher production. During her Taiwan visit, she had met with Foxconn and was expected to meet Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., or TSMC, according to the reports. She said AMD was working with memory suppliers to secure sufficient components and was seeking additional advanced wafer capacity. The chief executive said the company and its partners have extended their planning horizon from one or two years to three to five years. She described demand as very high over the coming years and said more wafer capacity would be needed. The reports did not detail how much additional capacity AMD expects to obtain or how quickly it could become available. Su was also reported to be visiting South Korea to meet memory suppliers.
