Alcaraz Advances in Shanghai With Team Moustache Agreement
Carlos Alcaraz reached the third round of the Shanghai Masters on October 10, beating Juan Manuel Cerundolo 6-3, 6-3 in 66 minutes as he took the court with a moustache inspired by a team agreement. The second-seeded Spaniard said he and his team had agreed before his Tokyo tournament win that they would grow moustaches and play in Shanghai with them if he claimed the title. Alcaraz said they planned to keep the look for the week and described the agreement as a way to have fun. The Tokyo victory was his first title since February, according to reports. Alcaraz said he was pleased with his performance after arriving from Tokyo, where playing conditions differed. His next opponent was to be determined by the match between Ignacio Buse and Zizou Bergs. The win put him into the tournament’s third round, also described as the round of 32. Daniil Medvedev also advanced, rallying from a set down to defeat Jan-Lennard Struff 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. It was Medvedev’s first match since his disqualification at the Beijing tournament, where he was removed after hitting a spectator with a loose ball, according to reports. He moved into the third round.
