Sinner ends 2026 season for knee treatment

Published 6 October 2026

Jannik Sinner has ended his 2026 tennis season to undergo treatment for a knee problem, the world No. 1 and his team said Tuesday. The decision rules him out of the remaining events this year, including the ATP Finals in Turin and Italy’s Davis Cup Finals, and leaves no confirmed date for his return. Sinner announced the decision in a video posted on social media, saying he and his doctors had decided he needed a course of treatment. He said he was considering his long-term career and wanted to return to competition fully fit. His management team said treatment was for inflammation in his knee and was intended to give him time to recover before preparations for 2027. The specific diagnosis has not been formally confirmed by Sinner or his team. Reports have offered differing descriptions, including tendon inflammation and a possible iliotibial band syndrome, while another report described a cartilage fissure and reactive synovitis. Those accounts have not been confirmed by the player or his representatives, so the precise condition and its severity remain unclear.
