Alan Ritchson in Talks to Replace Jason Momoa in Helldivers Movie

Alan Ritchson is in talks to replace Jason Momoa as the lead in Sony Pictures' upcoming movie adaptation of the Helldivers video game series. The Reacher star would step into the role vacated by Momoa, who departed the project in June 2026 due to reported creative differences with director Justin Lin. The film, produced by PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures, is scheduled for a theatrical release on November 10, 2027. Justin Lin is directing from a screenplay by Gary Dauberman, known for writing the It and Annabelle horror films. The project adapts the 2015 game Helldivers and its 2024 sequel, which have collectively sold more than 12 million copies worldwide. The Helldivers game series is a military science-fiction shooter with a satirical tone, following elite soldiers known as Helldivers who battle alien threats to defend the fictional planet of Super Earth. The adaptation has drawn comparisons to the 1997 film Starship Troopers, another Sony Pictures property. This would mark Ritchson's first time headlining a theatrical studio feature. His stardom has risen significantly through his role as the titular character in Amazon Prime Video's hit series Reacher.
