Zverev Reaches US Open Semifinals

Alexander Zverev has advanced to the US Open semifinals for the third time in his career, defeating Botic van de Zandschulp in straight sets. Zverev secured his place in the final four with a 6-2, 7-5, 6-1 victory on Wednesday, setting up a semifinal clash with Karen Khachanov. Zverev, the French Open champion, acknowledged a slow start to his tournament but has steadily improved his performance. "I think you saw in the first two rounds, I really didn't play well," Zverev said. "In other tournaments I would be out in the first round, but here I can fight back and play best of five sets, play four-and-a-half hours. I've started playing better throughout the tournament, and I'm definitely happy to be in the semifinals here." His win over van de Zandschulp was his 23rd Grand Slam match victory of 2026, surpassing Boris Becker's previous German men's record of 22 set in 1989. Zverev is also the only Grand Slam winner remaining in the men's draw and has reached the semifinals at all four majors this year, a feat achieved by only nine men in the Open Era.
