YouTube Music Begins Labeling AI-Generated Songs

Published 14 October 2026

YouTube Music began rolling out labels on October 14 for songs it identifies as created primarily with generative artificial intelligence, giving listeners information about AI’s role directly on the player page. Tapping a label opens additional details, according to YouTube’s announcement. The labels are also planned for the main YouTube app, though no expansion date was specified. The disclosure applies to music in which generative AI plays a significant role, including tracks where a model created the composition or vocals. YouTube says it will identify qualifying music through disclosures from music partners and its own detection tools. The company has not published accuracy data for those tools, leaving open how consistently the system will identify qualifying tracks. YouTube’s partner guidance sorts music into three categories: Fully Gen AI, Partly Gen AI and No Gen AI. The labels are intended to distinguish the extent of generative AI’s contribution, rather than mark every recording made with any automated tool. The guidance says routine production techniques such as pitch correction with AutoTune do not automatically require an AI-generated label.
