The visit, Xi's first to the White House in over a decade, is focused on preserving a fragile tariff truce and discussing trade, artificial intelligence, and rare earth minerals, with expectations for any major breakthroughs being low. The two leaders are scheduled to meet at the White House on September 24. The itinerary includes a formal arrival ceremony, a military review, and bilateral talks. Trump and first lady Melania Trump will host Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, for a state dinner in the East Room, with both presidents expected to deliver remarks. Prominent technology and business executives, including Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Sundar Pichai, Jensen Huang, Sam Altman, and Tim Cook, are expected to attend the dinner. Trade and tariffs are central to the discussions. The existing US-China tariff truce, agreed at a summit in Busan last October, is due to expire in November.
