Xbox survey tests reactions to possible game exclusivity
Microsoft is asking some Xbox Insiders how they would respond if future games from Xbox-developed franchises became console exclusives, a survey that does not announce a change in the company’s release plans. Screenshots of the questionnaire, obtained and verified by Windows Central’s Jez Corden, describe a hypothetical in which future titles from Xbox-developed franchises would be exclusive to Xbox consoles, with Call of Duty excepted. Players are asked whether they would buy an Xbox, play on a device they already own, turn to PC or stop playing the franchises. The survey names series including Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Minecraft, Diablo and DOOM, as well as PHYSINT, a game associated with Hideo Kojima. The scenarios focus on future releases. Existing games in other franchises would remain available on rival consoles, according to the reported questions, while new releases could be restricted to Xbox consoles and PC. Minecraft is treated differently in the questionnaire. Under that hypothetical, existing Minecraft games would no longer be available for purchase on PlayStation or Nintendo consoles, and those versions would stop receiving updates.
