Witness alleges $600,000 plan to halt EFCC investigation

Published 14 October 2026

A prosecution witness told the Kaduna State High Court that recordings he analysed allegedly discussed a $600,000 plan to stop an Economic and Financial Crimes Commission investigation linked to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. The allegations have not been established by the court. Segun Kayode, a forensic examiner with the State Security Service, testified that $500,000 was allegedly earmarked for EFCC officials and $100,000 for an intermediary. He said the plan was described in audio recordings his team examined after a request from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, which is prosecuting El-Rufai. Kayode further alleged that the recordings discussed efforts to halt an EFCC investigation into a company identified as Singularity, and plans to liquidate it in Nigeria and Mauritius. He said the conversation referred to an investigation in Mauritius by the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit. According to his testimony, the recordings also included instructions aimed at preventing an EFCC investigation into IHS.
