Whole Foods Recalls Cheese in Seven States Over Undeclared Egg Allergen

Whole Foods Market has recalled a specialty cheese sold at 18 stores in seven states because it contains an undeclared egg allergen, posing a serious health risk to individuals with egg allergies. The recall, announced by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on September 11, covers Fromagerie Coop de Mean Cabricharme cheese, which was found to contain egg lysozyme, a protein derived from egg whites, that was not listed on the product label. The affected cheese was sold in the specialty cheese departments at Whole Foods stores in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island. It was cut and wrapped in plastic by the pound, bearing Whole Foods Market scale labels. Consumers can identify the recalled product by checking for specific PLU codes and best-by dates. One label reads "Formagerie Coop de Mean Cabricharme Raw Milk, Aged 60 Days" with PLU code 57953, sold in six states. The other reads "Belgian Cabricharme" with PLU code 54670, sold in California and Arizona. The recall applies to all products with best-by dates up to and including October 7, 2026. No illnesses had been reported as of the recall announcement.
