White House Says 70 Million Children Auto-Enrolled in Accounts

Published 8 October 2026

The White House says about 70 million eligible children have been automatically enrolled in Trump Accounts, a government-created investment program, but automatic enrollment does not mean families have claimed the accounts or that children have received the program’s $1,000 Treasury seed contribution. President Donald Trump announced the enrollment figure in the Oval Office on October 7, describing the rollout as covering eligible children across the country. A more detailed account put the total number of created accounts at nearly 70 million, with more than 60 million created through automatic enrollment. The figures were presented by administration officials; the reports did not provide an independently audited account-level tally. The accounts are assigned to children under 18 who meet eligibility requirements, including having a valid Social Security number. Parents or guardians must take a separate step to claim an account, verify their identity and relationship to the child, and accept its terms. Claiming allows them to manage the account and enables contributions. Children gain control of the funds at age 18.
